Quote: ‘‘African-Americans have a rich heritage in this country that we should all be proud of. When we consider the history of this country we have to acknowledge the many contributions African-Americans have made. It is important to be mindful that they were fighters for freedom in every major war that this country has had and led in the struggle for human and civil rights. They were also a major influence on the American popular culture through their music, dance and poetry. The month of February was designated as a time for us to honor and remember the many great accomplishments of African-Americans and, by doing so, we honor America itself.”
