The 316th Wing’s goals are: evident pride in ourselves, our mission and our base; presidential-level support and respect from each to all of Team Andrews and their families; and Airmen fit and ready to fight and win across all spectrums.

If you see anything that can help us to reach these goals, please contact us with your comments at 316wg.cal@afncr.af.mil or call 301-981-5463.

Issue: As a Navy spouse living on base for the past year, I have found that my Air Force neighbors seem to receive information that I never seem to get. This information ranges from simple things like Morale Welfare and Recreation tickets available for special events to more important issues, such as the meeting last week which discussed the possibility of opening a charter school on base. I do read the weekly base paper, but much of this information is not in the paper or is time sensitive. I am not quite sure where in the process the ball is being dropped, but I am curious how the e-mail chains work for getting this information out to military families. I know the majority of families who live on base are Air Force, but I have talked to other non-Air Force families who live in base housing and they seem to be running into the same issue. Thank you.

Answer: Thank you for the inquiry. Communicating with our mission partners and their families is extremely important to our success as Joint Base Andrews. Currently, last minute announcements, such as tickets and meetings, are sent through a wing-wide mass e-mail to everyone on Air Force servers. Army, Navy and Marine families are not on the same servers and cannot be easily reached with announcements, and vice-versa.

The 316th Wing public affairs office is looking into solutions to the challenge of cross-service communication by using social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook. We currently have a Facebook page established as a venue to provide important information to community members and as a place where people can come and speak candidly about Air Force and Joint Base Andrews issues important to them. To become a fan, type ‘‘Joint Base Andrews” into the Facebook search engine, or visit www.facebook.com⁄pages⁄Andrews-Air-Force-Base-MD⁄Joint-Base-Andrews⁄318080243706

The Andrews Twitter account is set up and will soon be populated with important information such as celebrity visits, ticket giveaways, events and newsworthy information. Please look to the coming weeks for information to be posted. You can reach the page at http:⁄⁄twitter.com⁄AndrewsAirForce.

Stay tuned to the Capital Flyer and www.andrews.af.mil for updates on these new programs in the near future.
