Looking for One Good Troop
Our office has an opening for one volunteer on Tuesdays. We welcome retirees or the spouse of a retiree from any service. If you are interested, call me at 301-981-2726 or 571-239-4537.
Telephone News Line
Do you feel left out because you do not have a computer? The Air Force Personnel Center has come up with a telephone news service just for you. You can now get all the latest information by calling 800-558-1404. By calling this number, retirees and spouses can stay informed using this new easy-to-use menu-driven service.
You may select from several different topics that are compiled from various electronic news sources. Topics include pay and annuity matters, medical and health care, and other benefits and entitlements. Try it, you may like it.
COLA
If you are looking for a cost of living allowance increase in December, you will be disappointed. Everything I read indicates that the Consumer Price Index is flat, so we will not receive our usual COLA in December. This pertains to your military retirement pay, Social Security, federal retirement pay and other federal payments. That is the bad news.
The good news is we will not see our pay reduced. There is nothing in the COLA law that allows for a reduction in our retirement pay when the CPI is flat.

Wills and Living Wills
One retiree wanted to know if our 316th Wing Staff Judge Advocate’s office would prepare wills and living wills for retirees. Of course they will, but you just can’t walk in on them. You must prepare a will worksheet before you make an appointment to see a lawyer. The worksheet may be obtained from the 316 WG JA office or you can download the worksheet at http:⁄⁄www.andrews.af.mil⁄units⁄legaloffice.asp.
Your appointment is only for drafting your will. A second visit for the will execution is required. Will execution ceremonies are conducted each Tuesday at 10 a.m. and Thursday at 3 p.m., and do not require an appointment. Spouses may be seen together, but they must book an appointment for each spouse.
